Hi all, welcome to my blog!
My name is Nikki. I have my Bachelor of Science from the State University of New York at Binghamton University and a Master in Public Health in Epidemiology from Columbia University. I’m also a certified 200-hour yoga teacher. I’m also studying to return to school to become a NP, to ultimately work with headache patients
I am first going to briefly share what happened one day that resulted in my journey here today.
I was in an accident in 2016 where I sustained a concussion. I thought my symptoms of headache, nausea, vomiting, vision convergence issues would improve, but they did not. Several months out, I was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome. I also had herniations to my cervical and lumbar spine
Ultimately, I was diagnosed with chronic intractable migraines. In other words, I have chronic migraines that are difficult to treat or manage with standard medical options.
I also have PTSD from the accident that was quite publicized. Please don’t ask me to disclose further information about the accident, I will not share more than I am comfortable with. It was traumatizing. I also have depression and anxiety as a result.
I am here to share my journey of the ups and downs of living with chronic illness. I am more than my illness. I am not my pain. I experience joy on a daily basis. I have gained a lot – a community, a new sense of purpose, strength, and I still have my spirit and my family.
I am happy to answer any questions you may have about me.
